There is no substitution for a political- diplomatical settlement in Syria, said Gennady Gatilov, Deputy Russian Foreign Minister during the meetings held on the sidelines of the General Assembly of the United Nations.
Gatilov discussed in a meeting with Jeffrey Feltman, Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations for Political Affairs, United Nations participation in destructing chemical weapons in Syria. The two parts exchanged detailed views on common issues between Russia and the Secretariat of the United Nations. The two sides also discussed the situation in Syria, including the possible formulas for United Nations participation in putting Syrian chemical weapons under international supervision and destroying them later . Gatilov and Feltman agreed that the agreements reached by the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and U.S. John Kerry in Geneva, provides a real opportunity for a political-diplomactical settlement to the Syrian crisis.
