Member of the Syrian Government delegation, Information Minister "Omran al-Zoubi" said that the rejection of the coalition delegation to the draft statement which was submitted by the Syrian official delegation and which is totally based on the U.N Security Council resolutions is completely scandalous and shocking.
In a statement to reporters, al-Zoubi stressed that the coalition’s stance clearly means that the terrorist groups belong to it, and it is the political leadership of that the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) and al-Nusra Front and the Islamic Front.
He added that the draft statement is totally based on U.N Security Council resolution No 1373 and other relevant resolutions on combating terrorism, adding that a discussion was held on the draft statement and head of the Syrian official delegation explained in details the content of the draft.
The Minister said "we knew that the delegation sitting before us does not represent the Syrians nor does it represent the ‘coalition’ itself and the opposition, and we agreed to sit because had we said this without sitting, some sides would have considered us as predicting, while the other side would have said that we are fabricating lies on them".
He pointed out that there would be no session in the afternoon and tomorrow will be the last session and it will discuss what has been achieved during the past sessions, and there will be some logistic procedures decided by the U.N Envoy to Syria, Lakhdar Brahimi.
Al-Zoubi expressed hope that the second round of talks, in case it takes place, will be held in presence of the majority of the opposition so as not to come out with the same results of the first round, because those people are unable to make decisions or initiatives.
In a relevant context, the Minister denied any new statement by official delegation of the Syrian republic following the statement on fighting terrorism announced today morning, describing what is being circulated on any new statement attributed to the delegation as untrue.
