Egyptian defects from ISIL, says it disregards Zawahri
News   /   Syrian Crisis

An Egyptian national announced his defection from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in a video posted on YouTube Thursday.

The man, identified as Abu Ibrahim al-Masri, said ISIL had erred by disregarding the orders of al-Qaeda leader "Ayman al-Zawahri", who last year tasked al-Nusra Front, another al-Qaeda group, with responsibility for Syria.

The man said he had joined al-Nusra Front and added that ISIL members were guilty of clashing with other militias instead of trying to "overthrow Syrian regime".

He said in the video that "they hate the Free Syrian Army, they hate al-Nusra Front, and they hate all of the other armed groups".
