Russian ambassador to Syria said transport planes have delivered trucks provided by Moscow to help dismantle Syrian chemical weapons.
Ambassador "Azamat Kulmukhametov" said in remarks carried by the RIA Novosti news agency that the trucks were airlifted Wednesday to the Syrian port of Latakia, adding that 10 transport planes took part in the effort and more flights will be conducted.
Under the plan by the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, chemicals will be transported from 12 storage sites to Latakia. Russia is providing armored trucks and other equipment to help transport them.
The chemicals will be then loaded onto Danish and Norwegian ships and shipped to an Italian port, where the most toxic chemicals will be transferred to a U.S ship for destruction at sea.
