Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed during a telephone conversation with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad , the destruction of chemical weapons , in addition to preparations for Geneva-2 , as announced by Information Office at the Kremlin today.
Putin expressed his satisfaction and confidence with respect to the existing cooperation between the Syrian government and the mission of Organization for the Prohibition chemical weapons , saying he was concerned about reports claiming that extremists are perscuting Christians and other religious minorities in Syria.
The Kremlin statement also said that the Russian president stressed the efforts made by Russia in cooperation with its partners in order to prepare " Geneva -2 "conference and described al-Assad readiness to send a Syrian government delegation to this conference as positive , expressing hope that the basic groups of the Syrian opposition will express a constructive approach and will participate in that conference.
For his part, Syrian President thanked the Russian leadership on Moscow 's support for the Syrian people . The two parties also stressed their common interest to increase cooperation between the two countries.
