An interview with the papal ambassador in Damascus after a mortar shell targated the embassy

 Italian section in Vatican Radio conducted on Tuesday a telephone interview with the papal ambassador in Syria Bishop " Mario Zenara " in which he indicated that a shell hit the building at 6.35 am in local time and the damage was limited to materialism , thanking the Lord for not causing casualties in the incident .

Talking about targeting churches,  Zenara said that Franciscan Fathers convent in Aleppo was targeted also last Saturday by a mortar shell, causing no injuries , as well as a shell hit the square opposite the Cathedral of the Melkite Romen a month ago .The Bishop  said that no one can confirm whether the attacks were deliberate or by mistake.

 Bishop Zenara referred that "fears of Christians in Syria had increased during the past few months", adding that the Christians in the beginning of the conflict were enjoying some respect , but their situation became alarming after the the conflict worsened .

The papal ambassador in Damascus stressed the need to exert more efforts from the international community and all parties involved to bring peace to Syria. He said " providing effort should be made ​​in spite of the difficulties and problems because people are suffering and dying every day, their homes are abandoned and destroyed and the Syrian people are waiting form a long time a cease-fire and ending conflict and violence to reach a political solution" .
