German Chancellor Angela Merkel seeks the European Union to reach " an anti- spying agreement " similar to agreement France and Germany are seeking to reached with the United States after allegations of Washington wiretapping on Merkel's Mobile.
A spokesman of the German government late on Friday evening said that Merkel put forward such a proposal to the European leaders who attend a summit in Brussels. Sources attending the meeting claim that they are apparently ready to accept the proposal .
There were many accusations that the U.S. National Security Agency had tapped tens of thousands of french telephone recordings , in addition to monitoring Merkel's phone , which sparked outrage in Europe . Germany said on Friday it would send a senior intelligence leaders to Washington next week in an effort to get answers from the White House .
